Resources.

This page brings together writing, reflections and external resources related to trans-affirming therapy, gender, sexuality and relationships. It’s intended as a reference point – whether you’re looking for further reading, thinking about therapy, or wanting to understand what good practice can look like in the UK context.

External directories and organisations

The following can be helpful starting points when looking for trans-affirming or LGBTQ+ competent therapy in the UK. Inclusion in a directory isn’t a guarantee of fit, but they can help narrow your search.

Gendered Intelligence – Therapists and Counsellors Network
A UK-based charity with a directory of therapists experienced in working with trans and gender-diverse people.

Pink Therapy Directory (UK)
A long-running directory of therapists working with LGBTQ+ clients across the UK.

British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Therapist Directory
Searchable using LGBTQ+ and gender identity filters, with a wide range of UK-based practitioners.

Choosing a trans-affirming therapist

I have written a client-focused guide for people who are trans, non-binary or gender-diverse and considering therapy in the UK. It covers what “trans-affirming” can mean in practice, why experience matters, and questions you might want to ask before starting therapy.

Publications and writing

Alongside my clinical work, I write and edit around gender, sexuality and relationships.

I contributed a chapter to Erotically Queer (Routledge), a collection exploring queer erotic life, politics and culture.

I am also the editor of A Letter to My Little Trans Self, published by Hotpencil Press, an independent press I run. The book brings together letters from trans adults to their younger selves, reflecting on care, survival and becoming.

This writing sits alongside my therapy practice and informs how I think about gender, intimacy and care, without taking precedence over the needs of the people I work with in the room.

Further reading

The following books are often referenced in conversations about gender, sexuality and trans experience. This isn’t a definitive list, and inclusion isn’t an endorsement of every argument, but they may be useful starting points for some people.

A UK-based perspective situating trans lives within wider questions of care, power and social change.

Transgender History by Susan Stryker
A broad historical overview included for social and political context.

Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters
A novel exploring gender, intimacy and ambivalence without flattening experience.

Black on Both Sides by C. Riley Snorton
A key text on Black trans history and the ways race and gender are shaped together.

Redefining Realness by Janet Mock
A memoir about gender, class, desire and becoming, written with clarity and warmth.

Uncomfortable Labels by Laura Kate Dale
